    Instead: Use peer practice earlier, when a mismatched partner costs you nothing you needed. Close to the date, use something that starts when you do.

  • Weighing a peer's feedback as though it came from an interviewer.

    Instead: Judge it by who gave it. Somebody preparing for the same interview is a useful mirror and is not a hiring bar.

  • Practising the round you enjoy, because it is the one you are happy to reciprocate.

    Instead: Name the round you have been avoiding and rehearse that one instead.

  • Assuming free means cheaper.

    Instead: Count the hours. Free, with a reciprocal commitment attached, is a real price when the interview is on Thursday.
